Concert and Cruises, The Live-Event Recordings
Some journeys begin long before departure, not at the airport, not at embarkation, but in the moment something begins to stir, a sense of place, a certain atmosphere, the feeling that travel can begin long before you ever leave home. At the event our attendees were exposed to special offers from our partnering cruise-lines like Ponant, Viking, Silversea and Lindblad and aspecial booking-fee discount from the agency!
The concept of Concert & Cruises
Concert and Cruises was created from this idea, as a collaboration between DeSalvio Travel and pianist Robert Poortinga. It was never intended to be a traditional travel presentation, nor simply a concert, but a more personal and immersive way to experience travel through music, story, and atmosphere.
A musical program with travel as a starting point
At the center of these evenings were Europe’s great rivers, the Rhine, the Seine, and the Danube, introduced not simply as itineraries, but as cultural landscapes shaped by movement, history, and artistic life. Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Strasbourg, and Cologne emerged not merely as destinations, but as places whose identity was shaped by the rivers that carried their stories forward.
Alongside these journeys came thoughtfully designed river itineraries, carefully selected sailings, and the small details that elevate the experience when travel is planned with care. As a Virtuoso affiliated agency, we were also able to introduce the privileges that make these journeys especially rewarding, preferred access, select amenities, and exclusive travel value available only through our trusted partnerships.

The atmosphere of the evening
What made Concerts and Cruises so special was its intimacy. These evenings were never meant to feel formal, but personal, relaxed, and immersive, more akin to a private salon than a recital hall. Music, storytelling, and travel unfolded naturally together, allowing guests to experience each destination not through logistics, but through atmosphere and feeling.
Between the music came stories of the composers who traveled before us, moving across Europe in pursuit of audiences, patronage, and inspiration. Their journeys brought another dimension to the evening, offering context and character to the music, and making the destinations themselves feel more vivid and deeply understood.
The live recordings from Sarasota, Fresno, Bellingham, and Salt Lake City preserve that atmosphere exactly as it was, intimate, immediate, and alive in the room. These were never meant to feel like studio albums. They remain faithful to the natural flow of the evening, the presence of the audience, and the spontaneity of live performance. More than concert recordings, they are lasting impressions of the journey itself.
For those who attended, they offer a way to return to the atmosphere of the evening. For those discovering Concerts and Cruises for the first time, they offer a rare glimpse into what made these gatherings so memorable.
The musical programme itself unfolded like a journey, moving from Paris through Chopin and Debussy, eastward through Glinka and Balakirev, into Romantic Europe with Schumann and Liszt, before arriving in Vienna with Strauss. Each work became part of the route, and each city took shape through the music that once belonged to it.

Concerts and Cruises was created for those who believe that travel should begin with curiosity, unfold with elegance, and remain with you long after you return. The next Concerts and Cruises series returns in February 2027, and we would be delighted to share it with you.
