Grand Hotel Sitea: A Taste of Turin's Grand Hotel Tradition

A Grand Hotel in the Heart of Turin

Turin has some wonderful hotels, but very few have the history and character of a traditional Italian grand hotel. Grand Hotel Sitea has been part of the city's hospitality scene for more than a century, and its position makes it particularly interesting for anyone wanting to experience Turin properly. It sits slightly away from the busiest part of the centre, which is something we appreciate. You have a quieter place to return to after a day exploring, yet within five minutes you are in the heart of the city.

There is a particular feeling to this kind of hotel. Italian marble, classic interiors and an atmosphere that doesn't try to follow the latest trends. It is a property for people who appreciate the traditional grand hotel experience rather than a contemporary lifestyle hotel. Turin has an extraordinary cultural offering, and Sitea is well positioned to enjoy it. The Egyptian Museum is an obvious recommendation, as is the Royal Palace. For anyone interested in Italian history, the Risorgimento Museum deserves a visit. And then there are the cafés. One of our favourite recommendations is to stop for coffee at the historic bar frequented by Nietzsche, where he spent time writing some of his important works. It is these little connections between a city and its history that make Turin such an interesting destination.

The Pleasure of Staying Somewhere with History

What we particularly like about Grand Hotel Sitea is that it doesn't try to reinvent itself. It feels like an Italian grand hotel should feel, with its traditional interiors and marble details. There is something reassuring about that approach. Some hotels are constantly trying to introduce a new design concept, while others understand that their identity is precisely what makes them special. Sitea belongs to the latter category.

The rooms deserve particular attention when booking. They are all different, which means that choosing a room is not simply a question of selecting a category and hoping for the best. We would always want to discuss the options with the hotel before confirming a reservation. This is also where having a direct relationship with the property becomes useful. We know the sales representative and can discuss the individual rooms, helping us establish which one is most appropriate for our clients rather than leaving that decision entirely to availability.

Turin's Gastronomy Is Worth the Journey

One of the pleasures of staying in Turin is the quality of its restaurants. This is a city with a serious gastronomic tradition, and you don't necessarily need to make every meal a formal occasion to eat exceptionally well. We experienced this ourselves after our hotel inspection, when we had lunch at the wine and gastronomy bar directly opposite the hotel. We had just finished our meeting with the local guide who would accompany us on our private Turin tour, and it was an excellent introduction to the city's food scene.

For a more elaborate evening, Sitea has something particularly interesting: its Michelin-starred seafood restaurant. The restaurant has just five tables, with sand covering the floor to create the feeling of dining by the seaside. It is an unusual concept for a city so far from the coast. With only five tables, reservations are essential. Through our direct connection with the team, we can assist with securing a table for our clients.

It is exactly the sort of experience worth planning ahead for when visiting Turin.

Who Should Choose Grand Hotel Sitea?

We would recommend Sitea to travellers who appreciate the atmosphere of a traditional grand hotel and want a comfortable, high-quality base in central Turin. It is particularly suitable for a cultural journey, whether that means spending time in the city's museums, exploring the history of the House of Savoy or attending a concert in one of the many concert halls around Turin.

It is perhaps not the first property we would suggest to someone looking for a fashionable, youthful hotel with a contemporary social scene. Its appeal is different. It is classic, established and distinctly Italian. For us, the attraction is having a hotel with more than a century of history in a city that still has so much to offer culturally. Turin is often overlooked in favour of Florence, Venice or Milan, but it deserves considerably more attention.
